Founder's Message

A message from our Founder

Why GASWT exists, in the founder's own words.

Technology is changing the world around us.

Across different professions and communities, people are using technology, artificial intelligence and digital innovation to solve problems, reach more people and create new possibilities. Social work must be part of that future.

For me, this is personal.

Growing up in Africa, I saw how limited access to technology could affect people and communities. I also saw how easily people who are already underserved can be left behind when innovation does not reflect their realities.

Persons with disabilities are one powerful example. Technology has the potential to improve communication, independence, education, employment and everyday life, yet technology is not truly inclusive if the people it is meant to serve are not involved in creating it.

I believe we can do better.

We should not wait for the future to be designed for us. We should be part of designing it.

This is one of the ideas that inspired GASWT.

GASWT brings together social workers, technologists, researchers, people with disabilities, innovators and changemakers to explore how technology can strengthen social work and improve people's lives.

We believe technology should not only be advanced. It should be accessible, inclusive and meaningful.

And I believe Africa has an important role to play in that future. Africa should not only consume technology created elsewhere. We can contribute ideas, research, innovation and solutions that respond to our realities and can serve communities around the world.

But GASWT is bigger than Africa.

Our vision is global: to build a community where people from different countries, professions and backgrounds can work together to create technology that serves humanity.

  • A future where social work is not left behind.
  • A future where disability is not an afterthought.
  • A future where innovation reaches people who have historically been left behind.
  • And a future where technology strengthens human connection rather than replacing it.

This is why GASWT exists.

We are not simply building an organization. We are building a community of people who believe that technology should work for humanity — and that no one should be left behind.
