Our Story
Why a global alliance, and why now
Social work adapted to new technology case by case, without the shared research, standards or global network other professions had already built. GASWT is the alliance built to close that gap.
A gap, named
Technology has reshaped how medicine, education and finance operate — often faster than the institutions meant to govern that change could respond. Social work, a profession built on direct relationships with people, was left to adopt new tools with little research behind them, little shared standard for using them ethically, and no global body dedicated to the question. GASWT exists to close that gap.
One alliance, not one office
The founding decision was to build GASWT as a genuinely global network from the outset, rather than a single-country organization that later expands abroad. Regional leadership, country representation and programme direction are meant to be shared across the alliance's five regions, not set centrally and exported.
What GASWT set out to build
An alliance that brings social workers, researchers, technologists, educators and policymakers into one professional home — one that researches before it recommends, sets ethical standards before it deploys tools, and treats technology as something the social work profession should shape, not simply receive.
